Daily Gospel Reflection 9/23/17: Feast of Padre Pio

oday’s Gospel: Luke 8:4-15 – Padre Pio

The seeds, oh the falling seeds! When I hear this verse, I always wonder, where is my seed falling today? Is my seed on the path, the rocky ground or in the rich soil? The first seeds fall on rocky ground and have no roots and so they die. I know in times of trial I struggle to trust in God. I go into my survival mode and rely only on myself and my ability to protect myself. It takes everything in me to let go of myself and cling to God.

The second seed falls among thorns and is chocked by anxiety and the pleasures of life. I am definitely a worry wart. I struggle with being anxious over just about anything that causes me to worry. Luckily I have a husband who reminds me that Padre Pio said “Pray, hope and don’t worry.”

Finally, the seeds fell on rich soil and bore fruit through perseverance. This is what seed I desire to be! It reminds me of 2 Timothy 4:7 where St. Paul says “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” This is what I hope St. Paul will say to me one day. Having a generous and good heart is not always easy, especially when people drive me crazy, but God didn’t say “love your neighbor when they’re nice to you and agree with what you say.” Man, that would have been so much easier!

Where is my seed falling today? By Courtney Vallejo

How do you find ways to persevere in times of trial?

Dear Jesus, help me to always to plant my seed in rich soil and persevere in times of trial. Help me to have a generous and loving heart to all those who I encounter during my day.
